Jay Rockefeller and former Senate minority leader Tom Daschle—recalled no discussion of a new law. "I'm confident it never occurred," said Daschle. On the other hand, Roberts did recall discussing new legislation. No transcript was made and members were not allowed to take notes or consult with aides afterward, making it all but impossible to establish exactly what was said.

GENEVA - The United States should shut down the prison for terror suspects at Guantanamo Bay and either release all detainees being held there or bring them to trial, the United Nations said in a report released Thursday

The United States is holding about 500 men at the U.S. naval base on the southeastern tip of Cuba, so far only 10 have been charged since the detention camp opened in January 2001.
Five U.N. experts had sought invitations from the United States to visit Guantanamo since 2002. Three were invited last year, but refused to go in November after being told they could not interview detainees

A United Nations inquiry has called for the Immediate Closure of America's Guantanamo Bay detention center and the prosecution of officers and politicians "up to the highest level" who are accused of torturing detainees.

Guantanamo is so bad, that prisoners, as many as 84 at one time, were on a hunger strike. That caused the US Military to force feed them by shoving tubes into there stomachs to keep them alive. It was sick how they did it, yet they called it legal and human ...something about preserving life?

The US government is developing a massive computer system that can collect huge amounts of data and, by linking far-flung information from blogs and e-mail to government records and intelligence reports, search for patterns of terrorist activity.

The core of this effort is a little-known system called Analysis, Dissemination, Visualization, Insight, and Semantic Enhancement [ADVISE]. Only a few public documents mention it. ADVISE is a research and development program within the Department of Homeland Security [DHS], part of its three-year-old "Threat and Vulnerability, Testing and Assessment" portfolio.
The TVTA received nearly $50 million in federal funding this year.
The system - parts of which are operational, parts of which are still under development - is already credited with helping to foil some plots.[sic] It is the federal government's latest attempt to use broad data-collection and powerful analysis in the fight against terrorism. But by delving deeply into the digital minutiae of American life, the program is also raising concerns that the government is intruding too deeply into citizens' privacy

What sets ADVISE apart is its scope. It would collect a vast array of corporate and public online information - from financial records to CNN news stories - and cross-reference it against US intelligence and law-enforcement records. The system would then store it as "entities" - linked data about people, places, things, organizations, and events, according to a report summarizing a 2004 DHS conference in Alexandria, Va.

"A PROGRAM IN THE SHADOWS"

Yet the scope of ADVISE - its stage of development, cost, and most other details - is so obscure that critics say it poses a major privacy challenge.
"We just don't know enough about this technology, how it works, or what it is used for," says Marcia Hofmann of the Electronic Privacy Information Center in Washington. "It matters to a lot of people that these programs and software exist. We don't really know to what extent the government is mining personal data."
Even congressmen with direct oversight of DHS, who favor data mining, say they don't know enough about the program.
"It isn't a bad idea, but you have to do it in a way that demonstrates its utility - and with provable privacy protection," says Latanya Sweeney, founder of the Data Privacy Laboratory at Carnegie Mellon University. But since speaking on privacy at the 2004 DHS workshop, she now doubts the department is building privacy into ADVISE. "At this point, ADVISE has no funding for privacy technology."
She cites a recent request for proposal by the Office of Naval Research on behalf of DHS. Although it doesn't mention ADVISE by name, the proposal outlines data-technology research that meshes closely with technology cited in ADVISE documents.

And both Bush and his father winced as they sat behind the pulpit and heard the Rev. Joseph Lowery, who co-founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with Martin Luther King Jr., take several jabs at foreign and domestic policies.

"We know there were no weapons of mass destruction over there, but Coretta knew and we knew there are weapons of misdirection right down here," Lowery said, complaining that were far too many in the U.S. are living in poverty and without health care insurance.
"For war, billions more, but no more for the poor," Lowery continued, a take-off of a lyric from the song "A Time to Love" which drew a roaring standing ovation.

Bush's father tried to defuse any political tension by joking that Lowery used to challenge him when he was president, too.
"I kept score in the Oval Office desk — Lowery 21, Bush 3," former President George H.W. Bush said. "It wasn't a fair fight."

Let me just mention that the word 'fair' is not even in the Republican Dictionary!
The BUSHMAN family ought not to of even went to the ceremony.

Bush has destroyed civil rights, and when the Reverend Lowery mentioned the WMD as the Bush Crime Family winced......now what do you suppose two crooks sitting through a ceremony that is praising the outstanding endeavors of a lady and Family that, against the odds of corruption, of being himself spied upon, upon war and freedom and all that the Kings fought for....when now we have come full circle and the spying on peaceful groups and the loss of freedoms and the waste of the war of human lives, I bet they were not the slightest bit sorry that they could be really honoring Mrs King, ...no ......they just winced!

You listen to any speech that Martin Luther King gave and I bet you will see the Bushman Family go into a seizure of wincing.

Shame on Bush for trying to act like he cares...he would of done better sticking to his true form as with Cindy Sheehan and "just ignore the issue" He should of done like Gonzalas's and just ignored the questions and dodge around all the NSA spying topics by changing the subject or quoting Al Quada threats or like when senators were asking him about spying he dismissed there questions by saying they were..,"hypothetical situation" and so how could he answer their question? He couldn't and didn't {ha} Bushman should of been more like dirt bag Karl Rove and skirt the issues, step around and start a dirty rummer or make up a lie or cause some diversion{isn't he in jail yet?}
...or he should of been like Cheney and not address the issue but claim Nation Security Concerns and needing to stop Terrorism, then all the while, do nothing about our security
(As the whole damn Government did on 9-11 when they were warned and so busy changing all the policies as to who should do what?...yet they all screwed everything up) hmmmmmm?

But nooooo! BUSHMAN show up and pretends he cares about civil rights.... Then winches at the Truth Old BUSMAN may think its a game but....seems to me 21 - 3 record says who is the crooked one and who is really concerned with justice and rights and truth.
But using the word FAIR .....hahaha don't make me laugh, cause its pathetic!

Now that Rove's statement has been shown to be so obviously false, it would be most surprising if when his world and Fitzgerald's collide, the result isn't a political earthquake. The moment an earthquake arrives remains impossible to predict, but it would be surprising if, in the CIA leak case, the impact of a Rove indictment did not cause massive aftershocks.
