Chavez calls Bush the Devil

  http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2006-09-20-chavez_x.htm

UNITED NATIONS — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez took his verbal battle with the United States to the floor of the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday, calling President Bush "the devil."

"Yesterday the devil came here and this place still smells of sulfur," Chavez said, referring to Bush's speech at the assembly on Tuesday. "He came here talking as if he were the owner of the world."

U.S. "imperialism", he added, was "a threat to the survival of the human race."

Bush promoted "a false democracy of the elite" and a "democracy of bombs", he declared.

Road less Logging Rule Turned Over

A federal judge Wednesday reinstated a Clinton administration ban on the building of roads in untouched sections of national forests.

U.S. District Judge Elizabeth Laporte sided with states and environmentalists who sued to protect forest land.

The Clinton administration prohibited logging, mining and other development on 58.5 million acres of forest land in 38 states and Puerto Rico. In 2005, the Bush administration replaced the rule with a voluntary state-by-state petition process.

The judge overturned the new regulations.

Red Cross meets with USA detainees

GENEVA (AP) -- The Red Cross expects to meet for the first time 14 high-level terrorism suspects who were recently transferred from CIA secret prisons to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, at a visit to the camp starting next week, a spokeswoman said Wednesday

Bush said no detainees remain in CIA custody, but his admission of the prison program sparked criticism from a number of world leaders. European lawmakers have demanded to know the exact locations of the prisons and critics elsewhere argued the system tacitly approves torture.

Bush said that interrogation techniques used were tough, but did not constitute torture. He also said the secret prison program would continue because it is one of the most vital tools in the war on terror

Torture Issues by the White House

The new White House position, sent to Capitol Hill on Monday night, set off intensified negotiations between administration officials and a small group of Republican senators. The senators have blocked President Bush’s original proposal for legislation to clarify which interrogation techniques are permissible and to establish trial procedures for terrorism suspects now in United States military custody.

Coffin-sized

Dungeon

Arar, now 36, was detained by U.S. authorities as he changed planes in New York on Sept. 26, 2002. He was held for questioning for 12 days, then flown by jet to Jordan and driven to Syria. He was beaten, forced to confess to having trained in Afghanistan -- where he never has been -- and then kept in a coffin-size dungeon for 10 months before he was released, the Canadian inquiry commission found.

 the article continues......

O'Connor concluded "categorically there is no evidence" that Arar did anything wrong or was a security threat.

Although the report centered on Canadian actions, the counsel for the commission, Paul Cavalluzzo, said the results show that the U.S. practice of renditions "ought to be reviewed."

"This is really the first report in the Western world that has had access to all of the government documents we wanted and saw the practice of extraordinary rendition in full color," he said in an interview from Ottawa. "The ramifications were that an innocent Canadian was tortured, his life was put upside down, and it set him back years and years."

DAMN SICK ASS UNITED STATES CRAP

DONT SIT ON YOUR ASS - STAND UP AND STOP THIS CRAP

MY FELLOW ZEBRA 3 READERS - WE NEED TO PUT A STOP TO RENDITION AND TORTURE - THIS IS WRONG AND WILL STOP

WHEN I READ TODAY, THAT THE USA, HAS TO THIS DAY .... "CAPTURED" OVER 3000 PRISONERS I GOT SICK TO MY STOMACH!

Th following paragraph sums it up -->

Since Sept. 11, the CIA, working with other intelligence agencies, has captured an estimated 3,000 people in its effort to dismantle terrorist networks. Many of them have been secretly taken by "extraordinary rendition" to other countries, hidden from U.S. legal requirements and often subject to torture.

and please, hum the Star Spankled Banner while you read the rest:

Since Sept. 11, the CIA, working with other intelligence agencies, has captured an estimated 3,000 people in its effort to dismantle terrorist networks. Many of them have been secretly taken by "extraordinary rendition" to other countries, hidden from U.S. legal requirements and often subject to torture.

Those renditions are often carried out by CIA agents dressed head to toe in black, wearing masks, who blindfold their subjects and dress them in black. The practice is generating increased opposition by other countries; Italy is seeking to prosecute CIA officers who allegedly abducted a Muslim cleric in Milan in February 2003, and German prosecutors are investigating the CIA's activities in their country.

Although details of the renditions and the destinations of those held are secret, President Bush has confirmed the existence of CIA-run prisons throughout the world. Some of the subjects of renditions have been held in those prisons.

THE UNITED STATES IS AT FAULT !

AND IS IN THE WRONG !

Dear Congressman,

I am pleading with you to stop the President from implanting his suggested Terrorism law changes.

I urge you to not support President Bush’s plan to interrogate and prosecute terrorism suspects in the manner that he is suggesting.

It is not in the Best Interest of the United States to “change the Geneva Convention laws that we abide by and have for over 60 years”

It is wrong to change the Army Field Manual to include the torture techniques that President Bush says we need to do.

I am appalled and sickened by our anti-humanitarian positions.

I am appalled on how we bypass International law and with our lawyers in tow, we challenge everything that, we as America used to stand for in the International community.

The whole world is watching our great country turn to unconventional and bad human rights policies, terrible ethic standards and implanting rewritten NSA secret backdoors to interrogation tactics that never were acceptable.

The United States should not jeopardize our own servicemen who need these worldwide protections as well as the Human Rights Protections and conduct of war policy.

This is afforded to our servicemen and women and as well as any to all humans, by countries agreeing on standards and rules, and ones that we as the USA also live by.

We should NOT endorse any of these suggested changes by President Bush.

We as a free civilized country are out of line and shamefully I suggest we need to return America to the proud and honorable standards that are respected and forthright.

Interrogating with the CIA and using private contractors in a way that they are not “accountable” or beyond the laws that govern all of us, as a Country is a sickening way to violate policy.

The torture and killings of captured “enemy combats” is a disgrace, the atrocities are abounding and never ending to this day. I will spare you the horrible sickening stories that are documented and been proved.

The whole world watches as we violate and do so, with presidential approval, and that my fair Senator, is just horrible.

The use of spying on Americans and circumventing Congress and the letter of our laws, is disgraceful.

Not only to the Citizens here in this country but to my children and future grandchildren as well.

The fact that I need to explain why our President would spy without a warrant to my young teenagers is incomprehensible and un-American and against the Constitution that I have cherished my whole life.

The use of rendition and out-of-country prisons is flat out wrong and needs to stop immediately.

Violating our own long established laws, these prisoners and some who even are innocent, or “minors”, and then some imprisoned for years with NO TRIAL and then some more who are tortured in secret confines out from under the umbrella of USA laws…how shameful for me to even have to write you about this type of conduct.

The use of waterboarding and degrading tactics, which the President and Military are now trying to get ‘approved’, should be thrown in a trashcan as soon as possible.

The true terror is how we are reacting to the world and the humans in it. The true terror is how we the USA treat others, I hate to say it but we even invaded these other peoples land with out due process or correct information, (WMD) and now the president wants to change laws and policy to protect his own self, with total disregard for Human Life or Law.

Please help restore the pride, security, the morals, the faith and the true meaning of freedom and democracy, and send to the International community a sign we are trying to be prudent and just. Please help Mr. Senator sir, show my teenager that we Americans still do respect Life and liberty and the rules of war

And that we will cooperate with Human Rights Watch, Red Cross, and world UN observers, concerning International and US Laws, which are on the books and work fine.

Because we are a nation of separation of powers, because we are a nation that does care how we act and treat others.

Please stand tall against these criminal ideas of miss treating captured foreign fighters, citizens and in many cases “innocent people caught up in this mess” which I hear too often that after no trials or reason, these prisoners have been released only to say we got the wrong person. Usually not even an apology for using rendition and/or horrible techniques, etc on them.

You as my Senator are my hope to get this country on its feet as a law abiding, and international respecting country like we used to be.

Yes there is fighting and terrorism, but that is no excuse to throw away, or change our laws on human dignity and rights.

That is no reason to scrap Geneva or UN policies on this topic.

Work within the laws of our land and don’t change them to allow George Bush to torture or degrade or humiliate anyone in our custody again.

You Mr. Senator are my hope. You are this nations hope.

I pray and hope and now plead in writing to you to “say No to violations and or any changes in our laws or actions that do not maintain human rights safeguards and show respect for all human life” By you standing up to this atrocity you will show that we respect law, order, and the fundamental rules of engagement.

President Bush is leading this country to be hated and is making us in the USA known for our terrible treatment of human beings.

This will not make us safer…it will actually do just the opposite.

Please stand up and show that the USA is going to change our direction. …By being respectful to Human Life. No lawyer needed. Respect is what I want genuine, honorable, and reasonable.

The president's supports a bill, allowing classified evidence to be withheld from defendants in terror trials and using coerced testimony, and that is unacceptable to me as an American.

And furthermore his proposed legislation also would revise the law that interprets the nation's obligations under the Geneva Conventions, the treaty that sets the standard for treatment of war prisoners, so that harsh interrogations of detainees would not be questioned in court.

Senator I ask you in all sincerity “are we out of our minds?”

Help preserve the sanity and logic of what we, as a country should be, one, which is a Proud and Honorable and Just in its laws type of country.

As we see today, Senators like John McCain of Arizona, John W. Warner of Virginia, and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who all were joined on Thursday by Colin L. Powell, formerly the secretary of state and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in challenging the administration’s approach. Thank you to these men I say!

And please I beg of you, make the stand all US citizens will be proud of.

Stand up and be counted for the right thing to do for my country, my children, and their children and for the whole world that is now watching our policies and actions.

For we all are impacted one way or another when poor policy and human rights violations are allowed by an administration that doesn’t care about human life

Join with Mr. Warner and Mr. McCain in objecting to President Bush and his Republican colleagues in Congress, and tell the Senate Armed Services Committee to produce legislation that would provide detainees with protections beyond those sought by Mr. Bush and the US Military, tell them to not accept these changes and to act like a true American would and should, this I plead with you today. I would appreciate if you could respond back to my plea for justice and honest government request. And remember to say no to the suggested bill the President is pushing for. It is wrong!

Thank You,

me .....Joe Anybody

Go ahead Z3 readers copy - rewrite - borrow or just use your own words - just make sure you help preserve America

By contacting your Congressman and urging them to respect human life as we thought our country was suppose to be doing you will be  part of saving America for better days to come.

On one side are the Republican veterans of the uniformed services, arguing that the president’s proposal would effectively gut the nearly 60-year-old Geneva Conventions, sending a dark signal to the rest of the world and leaving United States military without adequate protection against torture and mistreatment.

Good God! This bushman is one persistent sick twisted and lying bleep*... This guy will change the laws of mankind without a peep from Congress.....well hardly a peep! it does look like the sheets are starting to rip. It now looks like even the scroungy lawlessness Republicans are started to "see the light"

Bushman is RIGHT NOW in the process of re-writing the Army War Manual, so that it includes water-boarding and humiliating types of interrogations. This is excuse my choice of words "ONE SICK *er"

He is RIGHT NOW trying to change the way we abide by the GENEVA Conventions laws.

He is right now appealing the SPYING violations he did on all of us CITIZENS of THE UNITED STATES.

He is RIGHT NOW trying to defied his use of CIA secret prisons and HIS use of CONTRACTORS who........dont have to abide by US law.

How about letting us citizens KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING ALL DAY
Mood:  energetic
Now Playing: Why Not Be Accountable Mr Senator?
Topic: POLITICS

I have to punch a  time clock at work

I have to be accountable for what I do all day

Why not make our congressmen (women) do the same?

Here is a link that addresses this very issue

THE PUNCH CLOCK CAMPAING

The Sunlight Foundation is launching a new campaign with rewards to anyone who can convince their Congressional representative to let the public know how they spend their time. It seems to me that this is something Republicans, Democrats, and independents all ought to get behind:

The Sunlight Network (the 501(c ) (4) social welfare organization affiliated with the Sunlight Foundation) is today announcing “The Punch Clock Campaign,” which will pay out good-will bounties to anyone who gains the signature of a Member of Congress, or prospective Member, on an agreement to make their daily schedule – listing all the people they meet with, including lobbyists, and all the meetings they go to, including fundraisers — public on the Internet.

“Every single day, the majority of Americans have to account for their time by punching a timecard or filling in a time sheet. It is about time our employees, guaranteed to us by the Constitution, do the same,” said Executive Director Ellen Miller. “A little more than a decade ago this would have been nearly impossible. Now, with the development and reach of the Internet, posting their daily schedule – complete with all the lobbyists they meet with and the fundraisers they go to – is simple.”

Sunlight is asking Members of Congress and FEC qualified challengers to sign an agreement to post their Congressional schedules. To anyone who can get a Member or challenger to sign the agreement, Sunlight will pay a cash fee -- $1,000 for each Member of Congress’ signature, and $250 for all other FEC qualified candidates.
