Patriot Act Move Closer to Passing
Now Playing: I will be damned ...there goes my Liberty
Topic: CIVIL RIGHTS
The Senate has voted 89 to 10 in favor of the controversial reauthorization bill (H.R. 3199) which comes a day after passage of a related bill to "improve protection of civil liberties" in the war on terror. That was on Wednesday, March 1, when the Senate voted 95-4 to approve S. 2271, Sununu Amendments to the PATRIOT Act reauthorization bill.

Lets just say Joe Anybody is proud of how his Democrat Senator voted on this issue. Nice Job Wyden!
But!..... My Republican Senator for this here joe ...ya just as I thought A BIG "NO" vote from him!!!

How did your state senator Vote?
*****************************************
Here is the Washington Post LINK to check their vote.
*****************************************

With the House of Representatives passing the measure in December, it now goes to President Bush to sign into law. The House will vote on the Sununu amendments next week.
It approved the reauthorization bill last December.

I see that 16 provisions of the act set to expire next week, the measure would make 14 of them permanent and extend two others by four years.

Sad to say this wasn't fought for the right reasons like a true patriot would of done. Troubling times
we live in Z3 readers, ahhh but the spirit from an 88 year old congressman from West Virgina Sen. Robert Byrd, the dean of the Senate and its resident constitutional expert.
This article HERE explains his civil rights qwest

Byrd's reversal on the Patriot Act on procedural and constitutional grounds dovetails with his growing opposition to the Bush administration's handling of the war on terrorism.

He tried to block the creation of the Homeland Security Department, which he said would give too much authority to the president. He voted against the war in Iraq.

And in 2004, Byrd published a book that minced no words. In ''Losing America: Confronting a Reckless and Arrogant Presidency,'' Byrd blasted his colleagues for failing to challenge Bush's polices and expanding executive power.

As for changing sides, Byrd's got a favorite phrase, from the poet James Russell Lowell:
''The foolish and the dead alone never change their opinions.''

......It's been a long day ...... so just one last comment; Sen Byrd said "This new proposal would erase too many of our freedoms guaranteed to the American people," Byrd added in a statement to The Associated Press. "In essence, this legislation says that the Bill of Rights is right no more."

His position allies him with another No voter,
Sen. Russell Feingold, D-Wis, a relative Senate newcomer who nonetheless foresaw potential problems with the "Original Patriot Act" before Byrd or any other member of the Senate.
And that was back in 2001, when -->
"Feingold., cast the lone vote against the new terror-fighting law."

Now these are two Civil Rights Patriot who's hand I would be Proud to shake!

Speak Up and Go To Jail (Russian Style)
Mood:  blue
Now Playing: Where are we? Is that slime on my newspaper?
Topic: CIVIL RIGHTS

“Careful what you say – you could be prosecuted.” That was the chilling message this month received by journalists, activists, and other critics of the government. In a serious setback for freedom of expression and all human rights. As human rights activist Stanislav Dmitrievsky was convicted of “inciting ethnic hatred” under counter-extremism laws for having published articles critical of the Russian Government’s actions in Chechnya.

Whoa! I thought that was in the US there for a minute. Hmmmmm Where is this at?

Oh! Russia .......wow!

Mood:  cheeky
Now Playing: Bush has ties to the UAE
Topic: POLITICS

Bushman family connection and members of the Bush administration have long-standing business connections with the United Arab Emirates, and those connections are raising new concerns and questions tonight in some quarters about why the president is defying his very own party leadership and his party in defending the Dubai port deal.

Will Bush Close GITMO to Pretend He Cares About Stopping Torture?
Mood:  don't ask
Now Playing: Cat n Mouse - Smoke n Mirrors - Torture & Rendention Will Continue
Topic: TORTURE

Do you think BUSHMAN really will shut down Guantanamo?
If he does I agree with this excellent article written by Paul Joseph Watson said in quote below and found in this link --> RIGHT HERE

(quote)
The fact is that the closure of Guantanamo Bay will be a token political points scoring gesture. The Bush administration is again on the ropes over new Abu Ghraib photos, the UAE port deal, NSA spying on Americans and Dick Cheney's wayward shooting.

Despite the illusory desperation of the Neo-Cons and their unwillingness to ever admit mistakes, closing Gitmo would give Lord Bush some breathing space and head off talk of impeachment at least for a while.

But it will not do anything to improve the situation of hundreds of thousands of innocent prisoners in torture gulags dotted all over Afghanistan and Iraq.

Afghanistan is now a drug colony and a narco-state. Child malnutrition levels are higher than they were before the war, unemployment is higher and the country is run by warlords and a resurgent Taliban. US puppet Hamid Karzai has no power outside of Kabul and has to be surrounded by 40 bodyguards everywhere he travels (pictured above).

The Neo-Cons have re-seized the prize of the opium trade and the rest of the country has gone to hell, with regional dictators free to torture whomever they like en masse. International aid agencies dare not travel outside of Kabul for fear of being kidnapped and murdered.
(end quote)

Yep Boys n Girls watch the shell game closely!
Not to mention the clock of justice is ticking!
Be glad you are not holding the drill or even helped supply the power when the these atrocities come before the court.
And thats what I have Ben Waiting for!

800,000 acres for sale? BUSHMAN must not like the wilderness!
Mood:  down
Now Playing: Sell The Forest ~ To Pay For Budget that War Machine has spent!
Topic: ENVIRONMENTAL
So you say you care about the wilderness?
Now how about sending Congress an email telling them you want to protect and save the wilderness from being sold off to pay for our ....*cough *cough War Debt
The Wilderness Society has a quick link to do just that http://action.wilderness.org/campaign/selloff/i7g8nes2ojnbtd3?

The way Joe Anybody see's it, the Bushman never has cared for the environment much and since all his war profiteers spent all of Americas money and we are in now in debt. We needed that WAR MONEY for the school and county roads, etc ...So He decides Hey! lets just sell the Forest
hmmmmm I wonder what we could get for 800,000 acres?!
There is 730 acres right in my near backyard they want to sell off! (Columbia River Gorge)

Sen Dianne Feinstein (D) Calif said it was Crazy to give tax cuts to the rich then to pay the bill sell off the forest!

Joe Anybody says's
What a shame. I thought it was hard enough to "save the trees" from being "Logged".

Now there is a whole new approach
"Just Sell It!"

Click HERE To see how much your 'neck of the woods' is going to be sold if BUSHMAN has his way.

Zapatista Subcomandante Marcos comments from 11/2000
Mood:  chillin'
Now Playing: NEOLIBERAL FASCISTS - - SKEPTICAL HOPEFUL
Topic: POLITICS
I thought these comments by Subcomandante Marcos were fitting.
The follow two topics are copied from HERE

******** NEOLIBERAL FASCISTS *******
In one of his books, Umberto Eco provides some pointers as to why fascism is still latent. He starts by warning us that fascism is a diffuse form of totalitarianism, then defines its characteristics: refusal of the advance of knowledge, disregard of rational principles, distrust of culture, fear of difference, racism, individual or social frustration, xenophobia, aristocratic elitism, machismo, individual sacrifice for the benefit of the cause, televised populism, and use of Newspeak with its limited words and rudimentary syntax.
These are the values that right-wing intellectuals defend. Take another look at the giant screen. All that gray is a response to disorder, reflected in demands for law and order from all around us. But, is Europe once more the prey of fascism? We may well see skinheads, with their swastikas, on the screen, but the commentator is quick to reassure us that they are only minority groups, already under control. But it may also take other, more sinister forms.
After the fall of the Berlin wall, both sides of the political spectrum in Europe rushed to occupy the center. This was all too obvious with the traditional left, but it was also the case with the far right. It went out of its way to acquire a new image, well removed from its violent, authoritarian past, enthusiastically espousing neoliberal dogma.

****** SKEPTICAL HOPEFUL ******
The task of progressive thinkers-to remain skeptically hopeful-isn't an easy one. They have understood how things work and, noblesse oblige, they must reveal what they know, dissect it, denounce it, and pass it on to others. But to do this, they must also confront neoliberal dogma, backed by the media, banks, major corporations, army, and police.
What is more, we live in a visual age. And so, to their considerable disadvantage, progressive thinkers must fight the power of the image with nothing but words. But their skepticism will get them out of that trap, and if they are equally skeptical in their critical analysis, they will be able to see through the virtual beauty to the real misery it conceals. So, perhaps there is reason to hope.
There is a story that when Michelangelo sculpted his statue of David, he had to work on a "second-hand" piece of marble that already had holes in it. It is a mark of his talent that he was able to create a figure that took account of these limitations. The world we want to transform has already been worked on by history and is largely hollow. We must nevertheless be inventive enough to change it and build a new world. Take care, and do not forget that ideas are also weapons.

Want to be an Actor? Don't be a political One ..... or you may become a Terrorist Suspect
Mood:  incredulous
Now Playing: Political Actors Held at Briton's Border = Terrorism = My Arse
Topic: TORTURE
The men, who play British inmates at the detention camp, were returning from the Berlin Film Festival where the movie won a Silver Bear award.

Read the BBC Link HERE

One of the actors, Rizwan Ahmed, said a police officer asked him if he intended to make any more "political" films. The men were released quickly and not arrested, said Bedfordshire police.

Although not suprising, Mr Ahmed (one of the actors)also alleges that he was verbally abused by a police officer and had his mobile phone taken from him for a short period.

So, just because these guys were in a Film that has shown the horrors of TORTURE BEING DONE AT Guantanamo Prison and the Innocent imprisonment of NON-TERRORISTS, and the torture they endured by the US & by Briton Military ...they are now considered Suspects?

Come on !! What the Hell? They are ACTORS!

This is what Joe Anybody means when he say that the Homeland Security and The Terrorism Task Force use their clout and positions to intimidate, arrest, detain, SPY, inquire, search, grill, sneak n peak, and flat out violate Citizens Civil Rights.

ALL OF THIS IS DONE TO LAW ABIDING CITIZENS BECAUSE OF THEIR POLITICAL OUTSPOKENNESS AGAINST THE WAR FASCISTS AND TORTURE PRACTICE'S THAT ARE CONDONED BY BRITON AND THE USA.

Where your freedom to speak out against These tyrants that are destroying this world ...you risk being a called a Terrorist and treated as if you were one.

More Innocent Truth Tellers Stopped and questioned as if they were TERRORIST "How Insanly Wrong"

Ironically the Film is about a TRUE story.
The Road to Guantanamo, directed by British Film-maker Michael Winterbottom, tells the story of the Tipton Three.
The men from the West Midlands went to Pakistan to arrange a wedding and eventually found themselves at the US camp "Guantanamo".
They were picked up in Afghanistan and believed to be terrorist suspects and were eventually released from Guantanamo Bay in 2004 without charge.

The Film, shot in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran, was made at a cost of #1.5m.
As I mentioned few days ago {Sat Z3 blog} you can see the films Trailer on CNN here-->
